Alex’s project tells the story of social worker Frances Perkins, who became the first woman cabinet member and labor secretary in the US. She helped to move forward many of the important pro-worker reforms of the early 20th century, including collective bargaining, Social Security, and unemployment compensation. Alex developed the performance as a student of teacher Patty Lien at St. Benedict’s middle in Decorah.
Alex brought down the house with her performance at the 2019 Iowa Federation of Labor Convention in Altoona.
